Remote access instructions for SPSS application
Published on: 27/08/2024

Section 1: Introduction

Dear students,

I have created this Guide for remote access to the SPSS research program to help fellow students. Below is the process by which you can gain remote access, with steps and images (screenshots).

With the remote access to the SPSS program, it is additionally possible to access the “U” Drive where tasks/files are stored on the computers in CUT, but also access to the files of your personal PC.

Section 2: Installation of "Citrix Workspace" Program

  1. Open the link by clicking Download Citrix Workspace App for Windows, Mac, and Chrome - Citrix.

  3. Clicking "Download for Windows" will open a new page where you can download the specific software.

Section 4: Open SPSS File in U Drive

  1. To open data for editing, go to File > Open > Data....
  2. To open data from an edited file (e.g., tables and graphs), go to File > Open > Output....

Click on "Look in" to find the address where you saved your work. You can find your Username in the list, and at the end in parentheses, you’ll see (U:).

  1. Then, you will see the folder with the saved files recognized by SPSS, and you can open any file by selecting it and clicking "Open" or double-clicking on it.

Section 5: Open SPSS File on the Same Personal PC

  1. If you want to open a file that is on your computer and not in the "U" drive, you can do so by selecting "Look in" and then selecting the Local Disk (C: ...) or another disk if you have one on your computer (e.g., 2nd hard disk or USB Drive).
  2. Click "Permit all access" so that SPSS can access your computer files and allow you to create/configure the file of your choice.

  3. After the above selection, it will show you the individual folders where you then have to select the folders in the correct order to reach the final address where the file you want to open is stored.

Section 6: Conclusion

I hope these steps will help you to better study and take advantage of remote access to this application for those who cannot attend the workshops in person where the SPSS program is used.

To help as many students as possible, I recommend sharing on social media and/or sending it to those who need help.

It will also be my great pleasure to read your valuable experiences/opinions in the comments below, leading to this particular Guide.
